Typed transcript of letter written by Allen to his brother. It gives the insights of a medical doctor who traveled from Davees (Davis) City, Missouri (May 15, 1850) to Oregon City, Oregon (October 28, 1850) as captain of his company. He describes the struggle pioneers had with disease and harsh conditions along the westward trail and on the frontier. The letter, written six weeks before Dr. Allen's death, was never mailed.
